Reconciling Spectral Phenomena with Reincarnation

The other day I was asked how someone who believes in reincarnation and also researches hauntings can reconcile the two seemingly opposed contradictions. If reincarnation is true, then how could there be such a thing as ghosts? And if ghosts are really the life energy essence of the dearly departed, then how can reincarnation exist?

I had to give this some thought. I could be wrong, but I think it all comes down to choice. Call it free will or what you want, but I believe we make decisions to stay or go. To stay in this plane of existence or not. Likewise, to be reborn—or not.

Time and space are linear thinking and I suspect that in the alterrealms, neither exist. Only we experience time and space, because that is a part of how this world functions, and how we function. Once you let go of the idea of time and space, anything and everything is possible. Sort of like in the movie the Matrix. You can slow down how you experience time or speed it up. Same with space.

Think about it. The table or desk in front of you is solid wood. But we know through the scientific method, that everything is made up of atoms. Chemicals, minerals, gases, etc. And between those atoms and the next are spaces. The atoms are moving around and exchanging bits of themselves. Now, we can't see it, see the reaction. All we see is a solid piece of wood. But it's not as solid as it seems.

Remember that line from the Matrix, about the spoon? Well, if you think about it, you could bend and shape any item to your will. So if that is possible, then maybe you can be two places at once, or come back reborn into a new body and yet still be a lingering ghost form somewhere else in the world. Or simply haunt your old house and then decide to leave once your business in this plane of existence is completed. Then you can start baby fresh.

It may not be an 'either or' situation. To have free will in death as well as life. Who knows, maybe next time you'll come back and be captain of a space ship. Imagine a female version of James T. Kirk, only better looking. :D
