    Flash Fiction Friday

    Bridge of Secrets

    by Cassandra Curtis
    ©2008

Cold seeped into her bones, making her feel every year she hid beneath the shield of her magick. She could go on as before, slip beneath the thick covers, and press herself between the warmth of her human lovers. But she knew it no longer sufficed and the rush never lasted. Soon they would wake, confused, and seeking reassurances she could not give. Eventually she would have to move and start over again.

The thought used to fill her with excitement. Travel an adventure she thrilled to experience. But not anymore. She often wished she could go back and remake her greatest decision. Of course, there was no going back, no way to undo the last 964 years of her life.

A yawn broke the silence of her contemplation, quickly followed by another, deeper sound. A groan. Soon would come the awareness that they slept in a strange bed and not alone. She forced a gentle smile upon her face and turned her back on the flash of streetcars below and the sunlit bay beyond the hotel window. Time to send them on their way.

The men never tried to stay as they did in the past. No pleading to fall on deaf ears. This new breed of man liked the anonymous union of sex; the slick, dark, and hungry feeding of desires and needs, the growling ache of pleasure and pain sated at last.

Once they left, she pulled the curtains closed and curled into the sheets. Rich woodland scented aftershave lingered on the pillows. She wondered how fast she would land if she jumped from the balcony. The thought tempted her, but she knew the wicked magic wouldn't allow her such an easy escape.

Her eyelids closed, but sleep remained just out of her grasp. A warm breath tickled her ear, danced across her jawline and chin.

    "Dream deep, Kathleen."

She let the words carry her away from reality and into distant lands.

    Hump Day Hunk

Please, meet Hans, everyone. He typically hangs around in colder climes, but this week he decided to drop in and sample a little of this warm summer weather we've been having.

I never really understood why he put off visiting, but when he shifted in front of me yesterday, it suddenly made sense. Can you guess what he shifted into?

The first person who can guess what Hans' shifter form is will win a random book from the MMC book vault and a set of signed author's bookmarks. One guess per person please!

The winner will be announced tomorrow here at the cafe, and in the event no one guesses correctly, a winner will be drawn at random via the good, old fashioned name in the hat trick. ^_^

Good luck everyone...and Happy Hunk Day!

The Place Where It All Starts

Grocery bag I’m standing in the check-out line at the grocery, playing a little game. Maybe some of you have played it too. In front of me, there’s this guy--tall, dark hair, kind of muscular. Nice firm…umm, well you get the picture.

He’s working those biceps, lifting laundry detergent and milk jugs from the cart. Everything about him is laid open for all to see on the conveyor belt. Lots of pre-packaged meals and peanut butter, a loaf of multi-grain bread, sleeping tablets, manly deodorant, razor blades, and a bottle of wine--domestic white. Toilet paper, duct tape, soap and a case of bottled water.

Sean, (I went ahead and named him) pushes the cart through and pulls out a wad of crumpled bills and a ton of change from the pockets of his low-cut jeans.

He has just enough for the bagged items. Almost to the penny. He pushes the cart one-handed, through the automatic doors and out of my life.

Based on his purchases I can surmise quite a bit about Sean. He’s single, has bills the paycheck never stretches far enough to cover, has trouble sleeping because of the money troubles, can’t cook, likes to eat and drink healthy, but doesn’t have the time for it since he’s always on the go, works out and cleans up nice after. Keeps a bottle of wine around for his girlfriend or a potential girlfriend.

But would I be right? Would the jumble of items paint a different picture if I placed a few of them in a different order?

Let’s see…white wine, sleeping tablets, duct tape, razor blades. Sounds a bit more sinister now, doesn’t it? Is Sean hero or villain?

The cash came directly from his pocket, not out of a wallet. No bulge in those jeans--well, at least not in the back. (LOL!) So no wallet. Maybe no driver’s license or identification--he’s paying cash, so he doesn’t need it anyway. Is he driving without a license? Or did he walk. He must live close.

What about those seemingly harmless items he bought? Placed together, they form an odd window into his world and into the world of a writer.

Imagination. This is where it starts. We see something and make comparisons and attachments, sometimes leaping over mountains of logic. We choose the solutions that seem to fit best, based on our own perceptions.

For writers, this means we’ve seen, heard, smelled, tasted or touched something that triggered a connection--integrated the intangible with the possible. The result is a concept or premise for a story.

I’ve played the game all my life. It can be applied to a person, place or thing. The spark for inspiration needs only a little fuel. Curiosity and excitement will fan the rest.

The spark for my novella, Cup of Fate, started with a photo and a request for help. A member in one of my personal interest groups wanted to find out the meanings of the symbols painted inside an old heirloom teacup.

On further inspection, I realized she had a vintage fortune telling teacup. Some of the symbols were clear enough. The significance behind the baby carriage and wedding ring were self evident--but what of the other strange markings?

As I tried to decipher the cup, I began to play the “what if” game. An entire scenario popped into my head. What if…a woman, new to the area, went yard sale shopping and found this teacup. What if the old woman who sold it to her offered to read her fortune.
    Sounds like fun, right?

Ah…but what if the tea cup didn’t foretell the future, but instead sent the poor soul who drank from the cup to an alternate reality, her destination all based on obscure drawings inside the cup--and exactly where those loose tea leaves chose to rest?

Keeping a creative journal organizes all the what ifs and other observations you make each day into a format you can return to again and again--your own hidden stash of gold nuggets. Writer’s block doesn’t stand a chance against such a valuable ally.

Dreams can also be a potent spark to imagination. H.P. Lovecraft suffered from terrible nightmares. Someone suggested he write them down in a journal. This enabled him to have at least some sense of control over the dreams. Better still, it allowed Lovecraft to write stories that have entertained millions of readers and inspired many of today’s top paranormal and horror authors.

Whether terrifying, highly erotic or laugh-out-loud funny, all dreams can be used to spark the creative juices.

If you have a blog, think back to some of the more memorable events you wrote about. See if there is a theme. Who knows, you just might have enough there to create your own novel idea.

Once you know how to look, you’ll find the place where your story starts. Even if it’s in the check-out lane of a grocery store.

Clean up on aisles two and three.

Now, I wonder what that’s about?

    Gemini – The Twins

    May 21 – June 20

    Happy Birthday, Gemini!
This is your time to shine bright among the stars!

    Symbol: Twins
    Element: Air
    Planetary ruler: Mercury
Rules: The Third House: (mental abilities, communication, perception, siblings, grade school)
    Colors: yellow
Gems: agate (star stone not birth stone)
    Metal: mercury

Best Virtue: versatile, adaptable, intellectual, logical, lively, engaging, charming, witty.*

Negative Traits: restless, cunning, inconstant, fickle, fidgety, gossipy, superficial.*

    Acupuncture meridian: liver meridian.

Herbal and Plant Associations: carrot, cress, garlic, lavender, licorice, mulberry, parsley.

Health conditions to watch for in Gemini: asthma, bronchitis, collarbone injuries, weak knees and ankles, rheumatoid arthritis, pneumonia, prone to exhaustion, Epstein-Barr.

Known for their dual personalities, Geminis are quicksilver, able to change moods from moment to moment. Natural communicators, Geminis do not suffer fools gladly. Once assured that you are not dull, a Gemini is eager to converse with you about anything under the sun, mainly because they love to find out what makes people tick.

The typical Gemini loves a well thrown party and can usually be found wherever lively conversation, or gossip is overheard. They like being the first one to know when a story breaks and get the scoop. They also like to keep busy. Geminis give a new meaning to the word multitasking.

But be forewarned, Geminis do have a darker side, one you aren't likely to see unless you know them very, very well. Mercury's influence makes them very cunning. This can be a big surprise to those who admire their quick-witted, flirty, and fun nature. Most often, this deep and dark cunning streak reveals itself when they use their tongues to flay their opponents raw. A Gemini's tongue is as deadly lethal as an adder's bite when provoked. This could be why Gemini's make excellent lawyers! :D

    When it comes to love,
Geminis are born flirts. This can sometimes lead to difficulties in marriage if their partner is one of the more jealous zodiac sun or moon signs. For some Geminis, this adds excitement and the extra spice they crave. Their dual nature combined with love of flirting and need for their own independence may cause some Geminis to resist settling down with just one partner.

The ideal match for a Gemini woman is a Libra or Leo man. The ideal match for a Gemini man is a Libra or Sagittarius woman.

    Some famous Gemini:
Naomi Campbell (May 22), Mike Myers (May 25), Pam Grier and Stevie Nicks (May 26), Brooke Shields and Clint Eastwood (May 31), Morgan Freeman (June 1), Wentworth Miller (June 2), Angelina Jolie (June 4), Liam Neeson and Prince (June 7), Joyce Carol Oates (June 16), Paula Abdul (June 19).

*Remember, a sun sign is only one part of a person's natal chart. Other planets and signs play a significant role in interpreting someone's personality traits.

    Thursday Thirteen: Cassandra's Hottest Men

If I had to pick 13 men I'd want for a weekend of fun, these are the ones I'd pick:
-- random order so they don't get their feelings hurt. (LOL)

    1. Johnny Depp

His sexy swagger and nonchalant attitude make his incredible good looks almost secondary. Captain Jack is my kind of pirate, matey!

    2. Colin Farrell

    The original bad boy.
    Irish accent and roguish charm.
    Ahhh.

We could go pub hopping so long as you don't make me sing Danny Boy! Last time was too embarrassing. ::wink::

    3. Orlando Bloom.

I loved him in LoTR and Pirates of the Caribbean, but I lusted him in Kingdom of Heaven.

    4. Will Smith

Smooth and sexy, fun and friendly, Will is my candidate of choice. I think it's time for a remake of Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. But my crystal ball predicts it might be several years before we can look forward to calling him Mr. President.

    5. Keanu Reeves

I always thought Keanu was cute in a surfer-dude sort of way, between his "Valley-ish"accent and movies like Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure and Point Break, but with movies like The Matrix trilogy and The Lake House, he's now elevated to serious actor and sexy superstar status.

I also love this pic of him with the black motorcycle. Yummy. ;)

    6. Gerard Butler

I love this photo of Gerard. He reminds me of a modern day sorcerer complete with his black cat. :P

All man, and all gorgeous. ::swoon::
If you have any doubts about the gorgeous part, watch the movie 300. ::drool::

However, it's this photo I looked at when I created the character of Collum Mayhew in my current work-in-progress.

    7. Eduardo Verastegui
I first noticed this Latino hunk in a Jennifer Lopez video.

He played Eduardo in the movie comedy, Meet Me In Miami, and also has guest starred in episodes of CSI: Miami.

Think he'd be willing to give me some Spanish lessons? One can only dream....ahhh..... ;)

    8. Hugh Jackman

Fun and sophisticated, the only man I've seen who looks good with muttonchops! Yum!

    9. Sean Bean

Sexy blond Sean plays some of nastiest villains and wicked antagonists. But I adore him anyway.

    10. Matt Damon

Southie Boy made good, Matt is a down-to-earth, private type of guy, with a wicked smile, and as moviegoers saw in the Bourne Identity flicks, he also has a wicked right...or was it a left? Either way, you know he can take care of business!

Perfect partner for a moonlight stroll, or for a night trolling for demons. ;)

    11. Jet Li

Handsome hunk Jet showed his acting skills off in The Forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan, as well as his shaved head and monk attire. Kinda sexy look, dude. His awesome killer moves leave a girl breathless and impressed.

    12. Viggo Mortensen

Whether scruffy or all cleaned up, Viggo is the hottest thing this side of Middle Earth! Woot!

    13. Antonio Banderas

When I first saw him in Desperado, I fell immediately in lust. Ahhh...With or without ponytail, he is simply hawt.

Now, I know some of you may not agree with me, (my attraction to all things Zorro is well known), but come on, the guy showed his acting chops in Philadelphia and his unique charisma in Desperado...plus, he has a goofy, playful side, (by signing up to be the voice of Puss in Boots in the Shrek movies). What more could a gal want?

    Whew!
I declare, I'm all hot after so much activity.
    ::fans self, winking::

Who would you pick for a fun weekend fling?

    Hump Day Hunk

Application for Employment at the Midnight Moon Cafe.

Please attach a recent photo and briefly tell us a little about yourself and why you think you'd make a good addition to the Midnight Moon Cafe.

Under the full moon, the shift begins, though I am not wolf, I feel the pull. In my lunar form, I hunt in the desert among the cactus and sagebrush. In my human form I live in New Mexico and work as a bartender at a human nightclub, but I am interested in moving, and seeing something new.

I think my skills would please you. I need a job where I can put all my talents to use and be part of a team. I have been told I work well under women, always eager to please.

I do love women and enjoy it when they talk to me. The female voice can be so mesmerizing...

Note to file: Before showing this applicant to Cora, Cass and Tempest for possible hiring, remember to ask applicant what type of shifter he becomes under a full moon.

    Contest Time!

Should we hire him? Let us know what you think!
Almost seems as though he's giving us a clue about what type of shifter he is.

    Can you guess?

Leave a comment here and tell us what you think. If you guess right, you'll be entered into a drawing for a goody bag from the MMC vault.

Contest ends Thursday (May 22, 2008) at noon (est) with drawing to be held Thursday at midnight. The winner will be announced this Friday here at the Café.

    Good Luck!

    Got Chocolate?

    There's Always Room for Chocolate

(ARA) - It’s no surprise, chocolate cookies are usually the first to disappear from the cookie tray at any party. From a dense chocolate cookie to a creamy chocolate filling or a delicate chocolate drizzle -- adding chocolate nearly always guarantees a richly satisfying and delicious cookie, worthy of every bite.

However, chocolate on its own can't deliver that unforgettable cookie without quality ingredients such as complimentary spices, pure vanilla extract and real butter. Never use spreads or margarine to replace butter in a recipe; spreads contain more water than butter and will not deliver the same results.

These recipes from America’s Dairy Farmers offer all types of chocolate, from bittersweet to semisweet to white chocolate. Look for a good-quality chocolate with a higher percentage of cocoa -- it will deliver the best flavor and melt better.

Bittersweet chocolate stars in the Double Chocolate Cherry Thumbprints, complemented by a subtle cinnamon flavor. The Peppermint Twists combine chocolate and crushed candy canes in a classic butter cookie, with a generous chocolate coating. Eggnog adds a rich flavor to the white chocolate fudge, while cherries and almonds round out the semisweet chocolate version.

Visit www.ButterIsBest.com for more baking tips and holiday cookie and candy recipes made with real butter.

    Double Chocolate Cherry Thumbprints

    Makes 6 dozen cookies

    Ingredients:

    1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) butter, softened

    1 cup sugar

    1 egg

    1/4 tsp. almond extract

4 oz. bittersweet chocolate, melted and cooled

    2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

    2 tsp. cinnamon

10 oz. maraschino cherries, cut in half

    3 oz. white chocolate

    Directions:

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add egg and almond extract; mix well.

Add bittersweet chocolate and blend to combine. Add flour and cinnamon; mix until well blended. Form dough into a ball, wrap in plastic and chill for 30 min.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Press thumb in center of each cookie and place half a cherry in each depression. Bake for 15 to 17 min. Cool completely.

Place white chocolate into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 30 sec.; stir and continue to microwave in 10-sec. increments until chocolate is smooth. Drizzle white chocolate across each cookie. Chill 5 min. to set white chocolate.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

    Peppermint Twists

    Makes 5 dozen cookies

    Ingredients:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

    1 cup sugar

    1/2 tsp. salt

    2 eggs

    1 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract

    Red or green food coloring

1/2 cup mini candy canes, crushed (about 20), divided

    4 cups all-purpose flour, divided

    2 tsp. baking powder, divided

2 oz. bittersweet chocolate, melted and cooled (see directions)

    1 egg white, beaten

    2 oz. bittersweet chocolate (optional)

    Directions:

In a large bowl, cream butter, sugar and salt. Add eggs and peppermint extract; mix well.

Remove 1 cup of butter mixture and place in a medium bowl; set aside. To remaining mixture, add red or green food coloring (until desired shade) and 1/4 cup crushed candy canes. Add 2 cups flour and 1 tsp. baking powder; mix well. On a large sheet of waxed paper, press dough into a large rectangle (about 1/2-inch thick), cover with a second sheet of waxed paper and chill 30 min.

Add melted chocolate to reserved butter mixture; mix well. Add 2 cups flour and 1 tsp. baking powder and mix until well blended. On a large sheet of waxed paper, press dough into a large rectangle, (about 1/2-inch thick) cover with a second sheet of waxed paper and chill 30 min.

Remove dough rectangles from refrigerator and roll each into larger (9x16-inch) rectangles. Brush one layer with egg white and place other layer on top. Trim long edges. Roll up lengthwise into a tight roll, resulting in a 16-inch long log. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill 30 min. Preheat oven to 350 F. Slice into 1/2-inch slices, and bake on parchment-lined cookie sheets for 10 to 12 min. Cool completely.

Break up chocolate and melt in a shallow, microwave-safe bowl for 30 sec. Stir and continue to microwave in 10-sec. increments, stirring until smooth, but not warm. Dip half of each cookie into melted chocolate and sprinkle with crushed candy canes. Place on waxed paper until chocolate sets.

Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to one week.

    Chocolate Cherry Fudge

    Makes 3 dozen

    Ingredients

    1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

    3/4 cup whipping cream

    2 cups sugar

12 oz. semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow creme

    1 cup slivered almonds, chopped

    1 cup dried cherries, chopped

    1 tsp. almond extract

    Directions

In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, cream and sugar. Bring to a full rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium and continue to boil, stirring frequently, 8 to 10 minutes, or until mixture reaches 234°F (soft ball stage) on a candy thermometer.

Remove from heat; add chocolate and marshmallow creme; stir until smooth. Add, almonds, cherries, and extract; mix until well blended. Pour mixture into a 9-inch square pan lined with buttered foil. Chill; cut into 1 1/2-inch squares. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

    Eggnog Fudge

    Makes 3 dozen

    Ingredients

    1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

    3/4 cup eggnog

    2 cups sugar

10 oz. white chocolate, coarsely chopped

    1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow creme

    1 cup pecans, chopped

1 tsp. rum or rum extract

    Directions

In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, eggnog, and sugar. Bring to a full rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium, and continue to boil, stirring frequently, 8 to 10 minutes, or until mixture reaches 234 F (soft ball stage) on a candy thermometer.

Remove from heat; add chocolate and nutmeg; stir until smooth. Add marshmallow creme, pecans and rum; mix well. Pour mixture into a 9-inch square pan lined with buttered foil. Cool completely; cut into 1 1/2-inch squares. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Full Moon Special: Kirlian Photography and Auras

How To Use Kirlian Photography To Achieve Unique Outcomes For Science And Photography

    By Muna wa Wanjiru

People who take an interest in paranormal phenomena are very likely aware of the contribution kirlian photography has to the studies in this pseudo-scientific research domain. In simple words kirlian photography is a form of aura photography, meaning that it allows the capturing of the subtle energetic fields that surround any life form. The physical explanation that lies behind kirlian photography is the electric field or the energy discharges and transfers that occur between various elements within an environment. This means that a photo could show more than one may see with the naked eye, and apparently the entire process relies on the properties of the cameras used for kirlian photography.

Called after the name of its inventor, Kirlian photography is actually a reformulation and re-actualization of a phenomenon very often know as elecrography. Kirlian was not the first in his attempts to achieve unique outcomes for science and photography, as there have been other 18th and 19th century trials in the same direction. The interesting part about kirlian photography is the meaning it gets in metaphysical or paranormal contexts. Consider for instance the fact that one of the major attributes of Kirlian photography was that of making the acupuncture points in the human body visible on a film.

Various experiments have been made to test kirlian photography and the possibilities it offers for the study of the energetic fields of living objects. This could also be the proof for any skeptical person who would strongly deny the existence of unseen energetic dimensions that are beyond immediate understanding or grasping by the human mind. Even more interesting is the fact that even inanimate objects influence the camera in kirlian photography, as the pictures show energy emissions in such cases too. For people who are a little familiar with such items, it is not difficult to realize that the whole structure of the world relies on energy transfer.

Though the very down to earth explanation of kirlian photography claims that the entire picture impression relies on normal physical phenomena such as the high voltage corona effect, the controversy is still normal. If it is true that kirlian photography captures more than mere electric discharges, then we are in self denial, living in a world that is both incomplete and shallow. If however, there is no energy body emission to be detected, then, at least we have this solid reality to count on. You may believe it or not, according to your own reason and judgment, and that is for sure!

    Books and your Summer Vacation

Our area schools just let out for summer, and for me that's the first indication that "beach days" really are upon us. Summer is definitely my favorite time of year, and I tend to read more then than any other season, although I'm not sure why that is.

Maybe because I take more chances with a summer reading material than any other time of the year. I'm more likely to walk into a store and pick up a straight contemporary, or science fiction than normal.

My favorites are what I call "quickies". They're books usually only a hundred and sixty or so pages, about the length of a Harlequin Presents. (Another series I read heavily during the summer!) I like that length book because I can take them out to the pool or the lake and pretty much read them in one or two sittings.

High drama or lots of action are requisite in my summer picks. Pale as I am, I can't afford to fall asleep outside in a lounge chair. With that in mind, I've thought seriously about investing in a Kindle reader.

Lots of ebooks fall into the "quickie" category, and some of my favorite authors are e-authors. I can just imagine the number of tasty books I could haul with me to the beach on a Kindle. Then again, I worry about it getting plastered by sand, or it getting smudged with sunblock . As careful as I might be, accidents do happen.

I also like to pick up an anthologies for vacation travel. I love anthologies any time of year; they're like the Whitman's Sampler of the publishing world. They take up less space than, say, four books, and there's usually something in the package that's to my taste.

I've discovered quite a few new authors for my auto-buy list by reading anthologies: Angela Knight, Sunny, MaryJanice Davidson, Ronda Thompson, just to name a few. I got into reading each of these authors by reading their anthology stories first.

So here's my question(s) for the day. What are your favorite summer reads? Do you go for particular authors? Genres? Do you choose books based on convenience or length? Do you have a pre-determined list of summer reads?

I'd love to hear what you like to read around the pool or while on vacation.

    Last Wolf Standing
    by Rhyannon Byrd

Five seconds earlier, Mason Dillinger would have sworn it could never happen…

That a woman who was his perfect match even existed. And that he'd find her in a bustling café. Yet just the scent of sweet, mortal Torrance Watson ignited a driving, explosive need to claim her that he knew his pack would never sanction. Worse, the rogue werewolf he'd been hunting had sensed that attraction and made Torry his prey. Forced to safeguard her from this ruthless assassin, who already posed a threat to his pack, Mason now faced the ultimate challenge. Did he have the courage to cross the line by sealing the blood bond that would make Torry his alone—a disloyalty few of his kind ever survived—or would he live an eternity without love?

Winner will be picked at random from comments left on this post that say they are ordering the 4C (Seas) Special. Drawing will be held at midnight, this Wednesday, and the winner posted here at the Cafe.

    Bonus Time!
If you can tell me the name of Michele Hauf's hero from Racing The Moon, you'll also win a free ebook download of that book as well! (Hint: the answer is in the interview we did with her on May 1, and also on her website. http://michelehauf.com Check it out. )

Tennessee Countryside or Paranormal Signs From Aliens

Are aliens trying to communicate with us?
Is it some unexplained paranormal phenomena?
    Or merely teenage pranksters?

What do you think when you see signs of crop circles?

In one of my current works-in-progress, my heroine is sheriff in a small Tennessee town that has seen plenty of these designs. She has more than a few likely suspects, but none more arresting than Collum Mayhew. What is a visiting professor from England doing in Pinesboro?

Not like the town has much in the way of attractions, except for the scenery–and of course, the crop circles that keep appearing every night.

Could the good professor have a hand in their creation? Or is the town sheriff just eager to get him in handcuffs? You'll have to wait and see. ::wink::

Weekend Flirt: Color Coding for Dating

I admit it's been a long time since I had to suffer through the whole dating thing, but I still have friends who are single and I think this idea would help them.

I say we create a standard color key for coding if someone is single, married or involved seriously with someone. You know, just to help those folks who are single so they know the score from the onset.

Take my friend Jan for example. She's single, in her mid 40's and has no children from her previous marriage. She has no desire to get involved with a married man. She enjoys movies and dinner theater, collects antiques, enjoys traveling, and wants someone who shares her interests.

As a single woman I'd dress her in green for single, big, funky silver art jewelry to indicate she doesn't have children, and one of those white handbags with passport stamps all over the fabric.

At a glance, a single man would know she is single without kids and likes to travel or at least hopes to travel.

Now, what would the color code for single men be? Why not make it also green or maybe a shade of green. He could wear brown pants to show he's been divorced, or maybe wear red to show he is seriously involved with someone.

It would certainly cut down on all the guesswork.

I told her my idea and she thinks it might not be bad. Then asks what I'd think if I met a guy wearing plaid. I told her...RUN! :P

If dating were color and dress coded what would your ideal man be wearing and what would it mean?

    Midnight Brew presents Patrice Michelle

Born and raised in the Southeast, award-winning author Patrice Michelle gave up her financial calculator for a keyboard and never looked back. Thanks to an open-minded family who taught her that life isn't as black and white as we're conditioned to believe, she pens her paranormal romance novels with the belief that various shades of gray are a lot more interesting. She's a natural with a point-and-shoot camera, likes to fiddle with graphic design and, to the relief of her family, strums her guitar to an audience of one.

The Café has the pleasure to receive one of the wonderful Silhouette Nocturne authors, Patrice Michelle!

MMC: Welcome to the Midnight Moon Café, Patrice. When did you first become interested in writing paranormal romances?

Patrice: I first became interested in writing paranormal romance when I couldn't explain why a ring I'd bought seemed to carry this perfumed scent despite of all the hand washings I'd done while wearing it. When I couldn't explain it, my mind started racing...what if I could write a story centering around a ring with a perfumed scent--that story ended up being a vampire story and my very first sale - Kendrians: A Taste for Passion.

MMC: Since you're pubbed in multiple genres, do you approach writing a paranormal romance any differently than, say contemporary romance?

Patrice: The biggest difference with paranormal romance is the world building, whereas with contemporary romance, the world around the characters already exists and is familiar to the readers. That means I spend a fair amount of pages, not only building the new world around the characters, but also creating the paranormal aspects of the characters themselves.

MMC: How much time do you dedicate to research for your stories?

Patrice: It really depends on how little (or much) I know about the subject I've decided to write about. For instance, with my Bad in Boots cowboy series, I did a fair amount of research in order to really understand the rodeo stock contractor's world and ranching in general. In my paranormal worlds, I'm making up my own rules and world characteristics, so the most important research aspect there is for me to be very consistent across several books when it comes to depicting my world accurately. Bits and pieces I research as I run across them, like procedural stuff for a police officer. Even though my world has vampires and werewolves in it, I still try to keep the "contemporary" aspects of the book as true to our world as I can.

MMC: Let's talk a little about world-building in the Scions series. How did you come up with your backstory for it? And how does that setting affect your main characters?

Patrice: The back story for the very first book was based on a vivid dream I had. From that book and the characters within it, others stories were developed. Some of my main characters are grounded in the contemporary world, whereas all of my heroes are set in a paranormal world. Each story in the Scions series merges these two worlds by bringing the characters together. All three books are intended to be read as a stand alone story, but there is a prophecy that flows through them, tying the three books intricately together.

MMC: Tell us a little about the first book on the Scions series, Resurrection?

Patrice: In the first book, Jachin Black is a vampire who has been cast out from his Sanguinas clan. He lives in the darkness among the humans, who's blood is poisonous to him. Jachin becomes an assassin to survive his exile. He survives because he believes in a prophesy told to his clan years ago of a human woman who will help the Sanguinas have a better way of life. When the heroine, Ariel Swanson writes a novel about vampires, Jachin believes she's the human to fulfill the prophesy. Only, Jachin's not the only one after Ariel. And so the adventure begins... :)

MMC: What's your favorite aspect of the book?

Patrice: My favorite aspect of the book was how it was inspired. I had a dream and bam, I just had to write it. Go figure that book would by my first NY sale. :) Seriously, though...my favorite aspect of that book was the darkness, the intensity of the characters along with the non-stop action scenes. I really enjoyed writing them.

MMC: The second installment of the Scions series, Insurrection, just came out now in May from Silhouette Nocturne. Give us the scoop!

Patrice: Scions: Insurrection takes up a few months after Scions: Resurrection left off. Insurrection is very much Landon Rourke's story. Landon is the sexy, tough werewolf you meet in Scions: Resurrection book one. Landon also has issues with his Lupreda wolf pack in that he lives apart from them, but at the beginning of the story he's asked by his pack members to use his relationship with Jachin to find out if the vampires had anything to do with three suddenly missing werewolves from the Lupreda pack. Not only does Landon have to try and keep peace between the wolf pack and the vampires, but his investigation puts him right in the path of Kaitlyn McKinney--the cop recently turned Detective who is investigating the case of some strange burned remains in a park. Those remains happen to be one of Landon's missing weres. Landon tries to steer Kaitlyn away from his dangerous world, because he's also connected to Kaitlyn via a past mistake he made and has regretted for eighteen years. The hard part is...Landon has fallen hard for Kaitie and the more he's around her the harder it is to keep his inner wolf from claiming the human woman as his.

MMC: What challenges did you face in the process of writing Insurrection?

Patrice: The biggest challenges in writing Insurrection was making sure that this second story stood alone, while not "info-dumping" on the readers. As an author we want to make sure we ground the reader, bringing them up to speed on what happened in book one, but doing so in such a way as to present the past information in a fresh, new way while sprinkling the details throughout the story. Also, each book builds more about the prophecy, so yet again, it's giving new information about the prophecy as it pertains to these characters. And all of this is done while writing a full-on, intricate, twisty plot and an entire love story in seventy-five thousand words. A challenge, you ask? Yes it is. LOL! But one I've learned a lot from. :)

MMC: What attracts you about the paranormal characters you write about?

Patrice: I love being able to make my paranormal characters larger than life, while grounding them in real world problems.

MMC: Who is the sexiest hero in your books to date and why?

Patrice: Hmmm, that's tough. Jachin is darkly sexy because of his intensity and his dedication to his beliefs and his clan, despite his own personal feelings for the heroine. Whereas Landon is admirable and all around drool-worthy because of his personal sacrifices for both his people and for the heroine, while his desire for her is so angsty and deep! So I guess I'd have to say BOTH because they heroes are very different but both appealing in their own ways.

MMC: Let's say you've just landed a movie deal, and you get to pick the actor who'll play the hero from one of your books. Who would you pick and why?

Patrice: Ooh, what a FUN question! Jachin Black could be played by Gerard Butler because Gerry can play a great vampire, both dangerous and as sexy as hell. Landon would be Hugh Jackman with light brown hair. As Wolverine, we know just how well-built and intensely dedicated Hugh can come across!

MMC: What keeps you writing day after day?

Patrice: Deadlines! LOL! No, it's true. But the reality is, I write everyday because it keeps my mind fresh and my writing flows more smoothly when I write everyday. Also, I give myself permission to just write, no matter how good or bad it is. WORDS can be edited. A blank page can't. :)

MMC: Now for the fun questions. Which one is sexier, vampires or werewolves, and why?

Patrice: Not fair! They're both sexy in their own way. Vampires are dangerous and there's something very sexual about their bite and need for blood, especially the heroine's But werewolves are seductively primal. Using all their senses, they can truly draw the heroine in...verra deep!

MMC: Do you have any obsessions? Collections?

Patrice: The only collection I can't seem to stop myself from doing is buying research books and reading books. Argh, my shelves are groaning at me to buy a Kindle! But I just love holding a print book in my hands. It's sad, but true.

MMC: What's something that your readers may not know about you?

Patrice: I don't listen to music while I write. I find music to be very inspiring and if I listened to it while I was trying to write, I'd end up thinking about the lyrics instead of writing. So I reserve music listening when I'm trying to relax or when I'm trying to free my mind for inspiration.

MMC: Do you have a favorite food/beverage/music do you always have on hand while you're writing?

Patrice: Yep, I guess I could've put this under my "obsession". Coffee. I can't help it, but I do lurve me some good lattes to get me going before I start writing.

MMC: Do you have a newsletter, blog, or website where fans can read about you and your books?

Patrice: My website is www.patricemichelle.net, where you can also sign up for my newsletter as well as my on-line Yahoo discussion group. I also have a MySpace site which can be found here:
    http://www.myspace.com/patrice_michelle

    -----------

    Contest Time!

Check out Ms. Michelle's latest Nocturne, SCIONS:INSURRECTION:

Blurb: When Detective Kaitlyn McKinney responds to a call about a strange, burned body, she discovers something far more complicated—and dangerous.

Landon Rourke is a werewolf, exiled from his pack and dedicated to keeping a protective watch over Kaitlyn.

A prophecy has said that his kind and vampires would one day come to a truce. But that day has yet to come.

Landon has his own past to deal with, too, involving Kaitie herself. A dark truth that has kept them apart for years. When Kaitlyn gets caught up in the battle between vampires and werewolves, the long-simmering attraction she shares with Landon ignites. And in that attraction they find the secret that will bring them together.

Doesn't Landon sound simply delish? *winks* Well, now you can own him. Okay, not him, really, but the closest thing to satisfy you. A copy of SCIONS:INSURRECTION will be given away among those who leave comments. *wg* Feel free to post questions as Ms. Michelle will be dropping by to answer them. Heh! But remember this contest ends tomorrow at midday.

    Hunk Day and a Giveaway

Meet Corbin, everyone, and please forgive his relaxed pose. He flew in from the midwest to stay with us at the Cafe for a while, and it seems after the long trip he needs a little R & R before he goes about his cafe duties. Anyone care to help him get comfortable?

Just one little thing before you curl up on the couch with him, though. Corbin has a secret....

Our new guest is a shapeshifter and he rarely ever lets anyone see his animal form. Can you guess what kind of shifter he is?

The first person to guess Corbin's shifter form will win a free download of Michele Hauf's Racing the Moon, the debut book from eHarlequin's new Nocturne Bites line. Retrograde Planets - What Do they Really Mean?

Retrograde Planets and What They Mean
    by Molly Clibourne

A planet being in retrograde means that, to us here on Earth, it appears to be moving backwards. The opposite of retrograde motion (or Rx for short) is direct motion.

Of course, the planets are not really going backwards. It is an optical illusion. Take Mercury retrograde for example. He travels around the Sun faster than we do, and every 4 months, he passes us in his orbit. We here on earth witness Mercury appearing to go backwards for three weeks.

When you were a kid, did you ever go on long car trips, lie in the back seat and stick your feet out the window? If you pass a big car or truck passed you, it looks to you like it’s going backwards. Retrograde motion is a lot like that.

Each planet in your natal chart represents the way in which you use a certain energy. For example, Mercury is the mind, your ideas, mental energy. Venus in your chart describes what you value and how you reach out to others in love.

When a planet in your chart is retrograde, you experience the energy of the planet in a more subjective, internal way. Thus your experience and expression of the planet’s energy is very unique to you. There is also a link to the past, or a concern with the past. Some karmic astrologers believe that retrograde planets indicate a link to a past life.

With Venus retrograde in your natal chart, your concept of beauty is different, comes from a different place, than those around you. With Mercury retrograde, your thinking is different. With Jupiter, planet of philosophy, your ethics, morality and religion may differ from your family’s.

Do these differences come from a past life? Maybe. Some astrologers think so.

If so, is it a punishment? No. It can be a great gift. But, an astrologer who does not understand karma might choose to interpret difficult things in your chart as some form of punishment. We make God in our image, rather than the other way around. Karma does not judge or punish. Those actions stem from human emotions!

Your chart shows your life’s lessons: those you have already learned and integrated, and those you’re still working on. It could be that you brought over the past life energy shown by the retrograde, to assist you in your soul growth in this lifetime.

The most important thing in karmic astrology is to use your chart as a map showing the way to inner peace and happiness, rather than to validate a negative view of yourself.

Usually the planetary energies flow outward “in the pursuit of” the various energies represented by the planets. But with retrograde planets the energies are turned back inward on the person & no longer is the fulfillment of this planetary pursuit to be found “out there” but within ourselves, contrary to what we may observe in others having the same planets direct.

With retrograde planets you have a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of the areas signified by the retrogrades & at the level indicated by their signs.

The retrograde effects usually register on the plane of activity that is represented by the element that contains the retrograde planet. If it’s an earth sign, the physical plane. Air, intelligence, mental activity. Water, emotions. Fire, passion, ideals & motivation.

Most important: When the retrograde planet is angular, or in the same sign as the sun, or if the retrograde planet is already in high focus or the ruler of the chart: It can dominate the personality.

The retrograde will affect most noticeably the house containing the retrograde planet. It will also have an effect on the house it rules, & on the houses containing planets that aspect the retrograde planet.

While retrograde planets do not deny, they do delay events in our lives. People with many retrograde planets in their chart have to “go the long way” to find their path. People with zero retrograde planets tend to be the ones who decide what they are going to “be” in childhood, and actually do it.

The Sun & Moon never turn retrograde. The Moon’s Nodes (mean) are always retrograde. The true Node is usually retrograde, but occasionally direct.

    Retrogrades by planet

Retrograde Mercury - These people absorb thoughts & ideals through osmosis rather than careful, deliberate study. Own best teacher. Tendency to question what others accept as gospel. More capable of dealing with abstractions & impressions than those with Mercury direct.

Retrograde Venus - Has unique ideas regarding pleasure, beauty & love, & less concern for the social amenities. They tend to put those they love to the acid test: “If I do x & y, will you still love me?” Can lead to some form of antisocial behavior. They may seek unconventional women.

Retrograde Mars - Work in its more conventional, mundane sense can be very painful for these people. Work best when it has some sort of “cause” associated with it. Less competitive than usual Mars energy— often in competition with themselves. Mars retrograde women are often attracted to men who are dependent, irresponsible, handicapped in some way, or social misfits.

Outer planets are retrograde roughly five months of the year. Thus they’re often found retrograde in a birth chart.

Retrograde Jupiter - These people are capable of taking advantage of opportunities that others ignore or pass by. They prefer to “take another crack” at things others have tried & failed. Their moral & ethical code, religion & philosophy are their own. They seek answers from within rather than subscribing to the standard dogma. They seek abundance in new, untried & unproved areas.

Retrograde Saturn - These people nearly always grave doubts about their worthiness as human beings. Can be very childlike in their behavior & fearful of taking chances. This is an ego-reducing kind of situation. There is usually a subconscious fear of rejection & of loss. Their limitations & responsibilities are self-imposed. This is probably the most difficult retrograde.

Retrograde Uranus - Here is a natural born rebel. Strong reformer instincts — for everybody else. These folks have a strong inner need & desire to persistently test their personal abilities against those of others. They must constantly prove themselves to themselves. In seeking greater freedom for themselves, they may limit the freedom of others.

Retrograde Neptune - These people are frequently confused inwardly as to whether they are “virtuous” or not. Persistently seek to help others, whether their help is wanted or not. They are more susceptible & more easily taken in by others.

Retrograde Pluto - Nearly half the world’s population has this retrograde. Its effect is hard to determine except to say that these people generally have a harder time integrating themselves into the mainstream of society. When Pluto is very strong, these people find themselves doing things without understanding why.

Retrograde ruler of the rising sign: These people doubt their personal worth as individuals & are very concerned with their self-image. Late bloomers.

    Another Nocturne author this Thursday!

That's right! This Thursday (May 8) the Midnight Moon Cafe will be receiving the visit of another of the authors writing for Silhouette Nocturne, Patrice Michelle. Her Scions series is totally hot! At the Midnight Brew, she will join us to celebrate the release of her second in the series, Insurrection. *wg*

If you're not familiar with the series, here is what you're missing:

Scions: Resurrection (Silhouette Nocturne Series #31)

Blurb: Everyone believed vampires were extinct. Everyone was wrong.

When Ariel Swanson wrote a novel about vampires, she hoped it would exorcise her fear of the creatures that had, not so long ago, terrorized the human population.

Instead, it brought her to their attention.

And to the attention of Jachin Black—a man banished from the Saguinas, a vampire pack, and forced to hunt among the despised humans. For he clung to the prophecy given years ago, of a better way for his kind to live—a prophecy Ariel unknowingly used as the basis of her novel.

Ariel hates and fears vampires. Jachin despises humanity. But the prophecy—and passion—binds them in ways they could never have imagined. Ways that may heal the past, and change the future.…

    Scions: Insurrection

And in that attraction they find the secret that will bring them together.…

But for Riley, the case takes a chilling turn when a second killer starts trailing mutilated bodies of his own: a crazed young vamp choosing victims from a past marked by tragedy. Riley knows she’s got the skill and cunning to catch two serial killers at once…until one of them strikes inside her own tight-knit clan—and a sexy beast of a vampire reenters her life to aid in the hunt. His name is Quinn. He’s lived forever, shed blood, and shared pleasure…and he’s the only man over whom Riley has absolutely no control...

    Midnight Brew presents Michele Hauf

A big fan of France, musketeers, vampires and faeries, today's guest has been writing romance, action-adventure and fantasy stories for over fifteen years. Her first published novel was Dark Rapture back in 1997. And if she followed the adage "write what you know", all her stories would have snow in them. Fortunately, she steps beyond her comfort zone and writes about countries she has never visited and of creatures she has never seen. Please, welcome one of Silhouette Nocturne authors, Michele Hauf.

MMC: Welcome to the Midnight Moon Café, Michele. When did you first become interested in writing paranormal romances?

Michele: I wrote my first vampire romance in the early 90s. At the time the remake of the TV series Dark Shadows was playing, starring Ben Cross, and the idea of a vampire as a sex symbol really struck me. I started playing with my own idea of a vampire, and haven't looked back since. (That book, Dark Rapture, was pubbed in 1997)

MMC: Since you’re pubbed in multiple genres, do you approach writing a paranormal romance any differently than, say fantasy or historical romance?

Michele: Not really. They all involve creating a world. And you'd think there would be more research for a historical novel, but there is as much for a paranormal story, but some of that research is 'making things up to fit the world', which is fun. I think I incorporate bits and pieces from all genres in each story, because I love historicals so much I always make sure my contemporary characters have a rich history.

MMC: Let's talk a little about world-building in the Bewitch the Dark series. How did you come up with your backstory for it? And how does that setting affect your main characters?

Michele: The backstory is an on-going idea of what I believe the world would be like if it were populated with vampires, witches, werewolves, etc. I followed a few rules of lore regarding vampires, and then created some new ones. Same with the witches. Some things I will keep vague because I realize that the more I write in the series, the more it expands, and the more 'creatures' populate it, so I want to leave room to grow, so to speak. It's not all pre-written and planned, it's more organic. If something interesting occurs to me that might enhance a character's goals, emotions or story-arc, I'll see if I can work it in and it becomes a part of the world. I don't have these rules written down anywhere, though I probably should. I do have a few terms on my website though.

MMC: Tell us a little about the first book on the Bewitch the Dark series, From the Dark?

Michele: It was written very quickly. :-) I had a short deadline, so I knew I couldn't create a whole new world. I had to use the world I'd originally created for my first vampire romance, Dark Rapture. Which was fine. I like the idea of keeping that one world, and, as mentioned above, enhancing. So with From the Dark I wanted to create a character that might have fit into Dark Rapture, but would also work with the new ideas I was forming for future books. Does that make sense? Anyway, I created another rock star vampire hero, which was fun.

MMC: Your latest story in the Bewitch the Dark series, Kiss Me Deadly, was released back in September 2007 from Silhouette Nocturne. Give us the scoop!

Michele: I had the idea to do a sort of 'reverse romance'. I thought, what if you fell in love right away? Can a relationship work after love at first sight? And what if these two people were natural enemies? I couldn't resist that idea, and so paired a witch with a vampire. In the Bewitch The Dark series witches are enemies to vampires because witch's blood is poison to a vampire.

MMC: What challenges did you face in the process of writing Kiss Me Deadly?

Michele: Bringing two enemies together and making their eventual falling in love seem real. I think it worked. And then there was Himself. (That's The Devil Himself.) He really wanted in on this story, so I let him, and he was a joy to work with, but also interesting in that he appears to a person in the image of their greatest desire. So at one point, the heroine sees the devil as the man she loves. Very interesting. (If anyone is interested, Himself is back in THE DEVIL TO PAY, which is tentatively slated for Jan '09)

MMC: What’s your favorite aspect of the book?

Michele: Seriously, I love a kick-butt woman. One who is independent and can stand up for herself. The witch in Kiss Me Deadly hunts vampires and kills them. She packs some deadly weapons and rides a street chopper. I love tough women (especially when I can soften them by making them fall in love with the big bad vampire.) Must be my Bombshell roots showing. :-)

MMC: Let's say you've just landed a movie deal, and you get to pick the actor who'll play the hero from your latest book. Who would you pick and why?

Michele: Hmm, well let's jump ahead to the hero of Racing the Moon. I'd love to see Jensen Ackles (of Supernatural) play the werewolf hero of that story. Oh, and Angelina Jolie has to be the heroine. Love that pairing. ;-)

MMC: You also had Familiar Stranger released on August 2007 as part of the multi-author Dark Enchantments series. Tell us about this wonderful demon hunter story.

Michele: This series was pulled together by me and three good friends. We wanted to do something together, and so created the world of Dark Enchantments. A couple of the authors did demons as heroes, but man, I just can't envision a demon as a hero. So I had to do a demon hunter, and then paired him with a familiar, a woman who serves as a bridge for demons to come to this realm. It was set in London, which is the first time I've set a story completely there, so the research was fun and interesting. And I got to do a lot of weapons and kick-ass action scenes (my favorite!) because the pair were constantly on the run or chasing after demons. The tagline says it all: He was recruited to fight the enemy—instead he fell in love with her.

MMC: What do you think is the key writing a truly memorable story?

Michele: Getting into the character's heads and discovering what it is they need most—and then taking that away from them. And what it is about each other (hero and heroine) that they need to grow and evolve. It's all about character!

MMC: Silhouette Nocturne is launching Nocturne Bites (which are Nocturnes short stories on ebook format) today. Your werewolf story Racing the Moon, is helping launching this series. Can you give us a preview?

Michele: This was a short, fun write. My editor wanted very sexy and lots of dialogue. I think I did it. It was a blast bringing two opposites together and seeing how they reacted to one another. The release date is May 1st, and you will be able to find it at eHarlequin.com

    Here's the blurb:

Dean Maverick, werewolf, is racing against the full moon when his truck breaks down in the middle of nowhere. A sexy female mechanic named Sunday assesses the damage—and Dean. Sparks crackle between the two of them; they cannot hide their attraction to one another.

It’ll take a day for parts to arrive; Sunday offers the spare bedroom above her shop for him to stay the night. Dean doesn’t have a day, or even a few hours. When the full moon is high in the sky, his inner wolf will emerge—unless he can appease it beforehand with sex.

Being a familiar isn’t easy for Sunday—sex is a conduit for demons to enter the mortal realm. Most familiars can control this power, but Sunday can’t. Every time she climaxes, a demon bridges to this realm, and they’re not always friendly. But she can’t deny the feral need to help slake Dean’s lust. And keeping the wolf at bay will see her safe from an attack—wolves don’t like cats.

Can a cat and wolf get beyond their prejudices—and overcome their own problems—to bring the wolf to a howling submission?

MMC: What keeps you writing day after day?

Michele: The joy of it. Seriously. Discovering new worlds and characters and challenging myself with new stories and ideas. Okay, so not every day is a joy. Edits and revisions and sometimes just trying to figure out WHAT THE HECK DO THEY WANT? makes writing less than joyful, but I'm always thankful to have this job. Nine to five just plain sucks. Been there, done that, shredded the T-shirt. :-)

MMC: Now for the fun questions. Which one is sexier, vampires or werewolves, and why?

Michele: Oh, you dare to ask at this particular moment in my writing life? You see, I've always, always been a vampire girl. Werewolves? Ugg. I mean, I've always said I'd never write a werewolf. I'd leave them to the other writers, because they did werewolves well. I just wasn't all that into a hairy, dog-like hero, you know?
    Well.

I did have a minor werewolf character in Kiss Me Deadly. Just put him in there because I wanted to show that my world contained creatures beyond vampires and witches. Well, about a month ago that werewolf came to me with his story. And you know, I loved it, and began to write it. And it was sexy. And HE was sexy. And I fell in love with him. And..well, then, I wrote the Nocturne Bites with another werewolf hero.

So, what the heck? I don't even know how to answer that question because I don't want the vampires to get mad at me. ;-)

MMC: Do you have any obsessions? Collections?

Michele: I'm currently obsessed with the TV show SUPERNATURAL. Sam and Dean Winchester. Num. And the writing on the show is excellent. Hmm, as for collections, I like to pin bugs (dragonflies, butterflies, beetles) and save those, but as for knickknacks and stuff, I'm in a 'get rid of all the stuff' phase. But then there are books. Can never have too many of those.

MMC: What's something that your readers may not know about you?

Michele: I have a sort of 'orderly' OCD. I can't pass collections or papers on a desk or magazines on a table without arranging them so they are in order or even lines. I do this in book stores, too, pressing my palms against the spines on the shelves so they are all even. I know. I must stop!

MMC: Do you have a favorite food/beverage/music do you always have on hand while you're writing?

Michele: Other than chocolate? I try to drink water mostly, but I do a chai break once in a while. And I listen to music only when editing, because I can't have any noise when I'm writing. But I do like to drive with the music blasting to get ideas or work out story problems.

MMC: Do you have a newsletter, blog, or website where fans can read about you and your books?

Michele: No newsletter, but I usually tell readers to stop by my blog because I post pretty frequently there, and anything new will be announced. THe blog is DUSTED, and it's here: dustedbywhimsy.blogspot.com

    My website is: www.michelehauf.com

And I also have a great list of vampire books, by genre, that I believe to be one of the oldest and largest lists online, THE ULTIMATE VAMPLIST. Find it at www.vampire-books.com

    -----

    Contest Time!

To celebrate the launching of Nocturne Bites, Michele Hauf is giving away two copies of her ebook, Racing the Moon, among those who comment here. Feeling lucky? *wg* This contest will end tomorrow at mid-day!
